Basics about colored pencils - layers and blending
For once, an article which isn't about drawing animals - but rather my preferred medium, colored pencils. Now, I think you know what colored pencils are and some about how they are used (stuff like "you draw with the pointy end"), so I won't go into that. Neither will I go into other basics like being able to draw a decent sketch or similar. Instead, I will focus on two of the most important things to know when you're drawing with colored pencils - namely layering and blending the colors. Now, I deal with realism, and this is going to influence this article. Layering and blending are pretty much vital when drawing realism. You can't capture all the colors, shadows and such around you if you somehow try to keep the drawing as some paint-by-numbers thing. The colors will have to blend into each other - and this is, of course, where the layering and blending comes in.
